The Reality

In our purpose, we identify untreated health needs within the Autism, ADHD, and Neurodiverse communities.  Our goal is to add another layer of care for these realities through nutrient support. Scroll down to learn more about these health needs and how an additional layer of support can make a difference.

ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental health condition that can affect both children and adults and can greatly impact day to day living. Most people think of ADHD symptoms as trouble with focus and attention, restlessness or trouble being still, impulsive decision making and behaviors, procrastination, and forgetfulness. Here are other common symptoms which are often overlooked. Rejection Sensitivity - heightened sensitivity to perceived rejection or criticism. Problems with short-term memory that can affect multitasking and following complex instructions. Hyperfocus - the ability to intensely focus on tasks they find highly engaging, to the detriment of other responsibilities. Emotional Dysregulation - experiencing intense emotions and unpredictable mood swings, making it challenging to manage emotions effectively. Time Management - difficulty understanding and managing time leading to chronic lateness, poor time estimation, and tasks not being completed on time. Sensory Sensitivities - heightened sensitivity to sensory stimuli, such as noise or textures, can also be an associated symptom. Not everyone will have every symptom and level of severity will vary. Additionally, many symptoms can change over time, making it a complex and dynamic condition. Check out the research that demonstrates Nova Re may be able to help.

Autism Spectrum

Autism, also called Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental health condition. Characteristics and severity will vary greatly among individuals. One of the hallmark features of autism is difficulty with social interaction and communication. Individuals with autism may have difficulty understanding social cues and interpreting verbal and nonverbal communication. Typical back-and-forth conversation is often difficult leading to trouble forming and understanding relationships. Another required characteristic of autism is repetitive behaviors and interests. Common examples can include rocking, making repetitive noises, distress when routine is disrupted, and a strong focus on specific subjects or activities. There are also characteristics that are not required for an ASD diagnosis but are still common. Autistic individuals often have significant anxiety. This may include worry about loved ones, the weather or understanding their own social struggles. Sensory sensitivities often occur, whether avoiding certain sensory stimulation or seeking out sensory input. Trouble with sleep, agitation, and gastrointestinal issues are also common in autism. Although there are positive aspects to being autistic Nova Rē knows there are some characteristics of autism that make day to day living harder than it needs to be. Click below to see the research demonstrating how Nova Rē  can help.

Anxiety

Anxiety often has a complex relationship with ADHD and Autism (ASD). Many individuals with ADHD or ASD experience heightened levels of anxiety. For those with ADHD, the challenges with attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity often lead to worries about academic or job performance and social interactions. Individuals with ASD may encounter anxiety due to difficulties understanding social cues, navigating social situations, change in routine, or sensory stimulation. Science also demonstrates that individuals with ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety are more likely to run low on the calming neurotransmitter GABA. A holistic approach that addresses both the primary condition and co-occurring anxiety is another layer of support to help individuals with ADHD, ASD, and Anxiety in their day to day lives. Check out the research demonstrating how Nova Rē may be able to help.

Gastrointestinal Trouble

Gastrointestinal issues are more common for people with ASD, ADHD, and Anxiety and should be taken into consideration when evaluating and developing a treatment protocol. There is science based evidence that these symptoms not only cause discomfort but they can also affect other common symptoms associated with ADHD and Autism including anxiety, agitation, immune irregularities, depression, and social behavior. The digestive enzymes found in Digestive Balance as well as our Probiotic Formulas have been specifically developed with the unique and more complex health issues of our communities in mind. Our formulas work to improve gut health through better digestion, absorption, and intestinal health allowing for improvement in daily living. Check out the science behind Nova Rē’s decision to include digestive enzymes and probiotics in our product line.

Vitamin D Deficiency

Vitamin D is a vital nutrient necessary for good health.  It is important for healthy bone development, immune health, cognitive function, mood, and energy. However, the majority of people in the world today are vitamin D deficient.  People are outside in the sun far less than in previous generations. When people do go outside, the sunscreen they use prevents our skin from absorbing the nutrients required to make Vitamin D.  And for most of us, our daily diet does not provide the amount of Vitamin D we need. Research demonstrates that people with Autism and ADHD are likely to be Vitamin D deficient (just like everybody else) and, with proper supplementation, these same individuals had improved symptoms in behavior and cognition. Check out the science behind Nova Rē’s decision to make Vitamin D a part of our product line and one more resource to help the day go better.

Effects of Antibiotics on Gut Health

Most people are prescribed antibiotics to fight infection at sometime in their life.  While the antibiotics kill off the bacteria causing the infection, they also kill off some of the important bacteria we need for our health and well being. Research suggests that probiotics support gut microecology during and after antibiotic treatment through competition for nutrients, restricting the attachment of pathogens, and the introduction of lower colonic pH favoring the growth of nonpathogenic species. This new reality for our health due to the use of antibiotics comes with the need to protect our gut health. Micro Restore is a product designed to help sustain and reinforce the protective gut microbiota needed for immune health and to support inflammation, nutrient absorption, and healthy bowel function. Learn about the science behind Micro Restore from the research studies below.

Nutritional Deficiencies

Nutrition is vital to our health and well being.  That being said, children and adults with Autism and ADHD are often nutrient deficient. Multivitamin and mineral support has the power to improve cognition, mood, & immunity, a powerful solution that can make a significant difference in our quality of life. We can attempt to make better food choices, but for many in our community better eating habits are challenging or not an option.  Gastrointestinal issues, restrictive food patterns, sensory issues, allergies, poor nutrient absorption, environment, & genetics can all be contributing factors to nutritional deficiency.  At Nova Rē, we want to explore the question: How would we feel if our body and brain had all of the nutrients we need?

Omega 3

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid our bodies can not make, so it must be ingested through the food we eat. The vast majority of Americans are Omega 3 deficient and people with ADHD and Autism are at higher risk of this deficiency than the general population. The EPA and DHA in Omega 3 provide important benefits to our health by supporting a healthy inflammatory response as well as mood, heart, brain, joint, skin, and nerve function. In addition, research demonstrates Omega 3 can have a positive effect for people with ADHD and Autism in the areas of anxiety, focus, irritability, hyperactivity, and behavior.
